Last week the DC menswear community played host to the premiere of the Men of the Cloth film screening. Director Ms. Vicki Vasilopoulos was in attendance at a sold out screening. Many of DC's respected tailoring enthusiasts were in attendance as well as admirers of the craft from afar. The evening was preceded by cocktails in the lobby of the intimate and cozy West End Cinema. Men of The Cloth has been screened in theatres with as many as 500 seats, but the 95 seat space provided just the right amount of family atmosphere while allowing the crowd and the participants to mix and mingle comfortably.
The film was well received by all and was followed by a Q&A moderated by yours truly and featured Vicki and Mr. Sofio Barone, founder of Sofio's Custom Clothiers & Tailors. Mr. Barone hails from Sicily and had personal relationships with some of the men featured in the film. The conversation ranged from the personal quirks of the tailors featured to the seemingly non-existence of women in the craft, to the overall decline of the industry.
Ultimately, the crowd got their money's worth in drinks, entertainment and conversation. We are proud to have been able to coordinate this event from beginning to end and to have the DC community support an independent filmmaker and a local small business. Until the next show. Dress well friends.
