The National Shoe Retailers Association (NSRA) is a non-profit organization representing independent shoe store owners throughout the United States and Canada. NSRA serves as the independent retailer’s resource and advocate, representing the independent shoe retailing community among manufacturers, suppliers and the broader footwear industry.
We were recently asked about our opinion on footwear trends for men in 2014. Below is an excerpt of the full interview which included womenswear published in the monthly trade magazine published by NSRA. You can like NSRA on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
Today we’d like to introduce Mr. Paul Davies, Director at The London Shoemaker. Originally from Sittingbourne, England Mr. Davis learned his trade cutting his teeth with the top cobblers in London and has been in the footwear industry since the early 1980′s. His shop is located in rural countryside and horse country of Middleburg, VA and he is celebrating the recent grand opening of his new leather and crafts boutique where his product is made on site in the USA.
The London Shoemaker offers bespoke handcrafted shoes, boots, and RTW house shoes in calf, suede, velvet, buckskins, and exotics and select leather accessories for those looking for something classic but distinct. While Paul’s product is bespoke and therefore personally customized, he leans towards a classic rounded toe with stacked heel. The process begins with a consultation where the foot is measured and a specific last is created. Next, the leather and design are selected. Calf or exotic? suede or velvet? Split toe or whole cut? Embroidery or riding boot? The choice is yours. The fitting follows the design where any inconsistencies are considered by Mr. Davies himself and adjusted for fit, form, and function. Lastly the soles are attached and each pair is finished with a polish and a pair of handmade shoe trees to protect your investment.
You can see more of The London Shoemaker below and on Facebook. Contact Mr. Paul Davies at 540-222-6267 (direct line) or 540-687-5888 firstname.lastname@example.org for a price quote or appointment.
Spring is sputtering into shape in DC and we’ve turned our attention to the lighter side of footwear. After pounding around in ankle high Horween leather boots, it’s time to brighten up and lighten up. We recently came across one brand that we’ve neglected in the past but its new spring offerings deserve a bit of attention.
I was originally introduced to Hugs & Co by my colleague Justin FitzPatrick of The Shoe Snob and if Justin recommends a footwear brand, I don’t hesitate to investigate. Hugs & Co is a British born label offering suede penny loafer/drivers and now offering suede tasseled loafers/drivers since 2012. I originally spoke with Hugo back when they only offered penny loafers and discussed his upcoming product. He mentioned the addition of more colors and tassels. The wait was worth it.
